Fulmarus glacialis

Identification:
Relatively broad and stubby head and wings. Gull-sized, but glides like a shearwater. Dark patch near eye, otherwise plumage varies widely from white to dark gray.
Distribution:
Nests on islands throughout the far northern hemisphere. Winters on northern oceans.
Cool Facts:
Northern Fulmars may not start breeding until they are 8-10 years old, and have been recorded living for at least 50 years.
The Northern Fulmar population has increased dramatically over the past two centuries, possibly due to increased food availability from fishing vessels.
