Identification:
Light underside and back with black outer wing. Light pink bill and yellow back of head and neck.
Distribution:
Nest on Toshima Island and Minami-kojima Island in Japan. Year round, wader widely throughout the Pacific Ocean.
Cool Facts:
Feather hunters killed millions of Short-tailed Albatross until the species was declared extinct in the 1940s; around 50 birds were eventually rediscovered, probably juveniles who survived at sea, and this protected species has slowly increased to over 2000 birds.
