Grayish brown overall, with complete light eye ring and pied bill, light with dark stripe.
Distribution:
Year-round resident from southern South America to northern United States, Winter resident through central US and Canada.
Cool Facts:
Pied-billed grebes can trap water in their feathers, fine-tuning their buoyancy to allow for deep diving, or floating stealthily along the water’s surface with only part of their body exposed.
Although Pied-billed Grebes are relatively poor fliers, some have flown as far as the Hawaiian Islands or Europe.
