Identification:
Dark gray to black overall, with black particularly on face and neck. Black bill and yellow eye. Fluffy rear.
Distribution:
Resident from extreme southern Texas, through Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America to northern Argentina.
Cool Facts:
The Least Grebe is the smallest and most poorly studied member of the grebe family.
The scientific name Tachybaptus is Greek for “fast diving.” The Least Grebe is the only member of its genus found in the New World.
