Identification:
Dark front and back, with light undertail coverts and front of face.
Distribution:
Nests primarily on the Hawaiian Islands. Throughout the year, found wandering large portions of the Pacific Ocean.
Cool Facts:
Albatrosses have an excellent sense of smell, which they use to track down food on the open ocean.
The Black-footed Albatross roams huge portions of the Pacific Ocean on its 7-8 foot wingspan; a single foraging trip may see a bird fly several thousand miles nonstop from its nesting grounds in Hawaii to the shores of Alaska or Japan, then back to feed its chicks.
