Year-round resident from southern South America to northern United States, Winter resident through central US and Canada.

Cool Facts:

Pied-billed grebes can trap water in their feathers, fine-tuning their buoyancy to allow for deep diving, or floating stealthily along the water’s surface with only part of their body exposed.

Although Pied-billed Grebes are relatively poor fliers, some have flown as far as the Hawaiian Islands or Europe.
