Identification:
Male has a cinnamon head and green crescent extending from the eye to the back of the neck. Both male and female have a distinctive green wing patch.
Distribution:
Summer resident across North America into far northern Alaska and Canada. Winter resident in southern US and Mexico.
Cool Facts:
The Green-winged Teal is the smallest duck in North America.
American and Eurasian Green-winged Teal were once considered separate species. Whereas the American version has a vertical white stripe on the breast, the European version has a horizontal white stripe below the wing.
