Identification:
Long, pointed wings and tail. Light breast with black belly band and rufous legs/undertail. Dark back with thick malar stripe and white eyebrow. Black and white banded tail.

Cool Facts:
Though the Aplomado Falcon is widespread in South America, the species largely disappeared from the US in the 1930s, leading to listing as a federally endangered species. Reintroduction of captive-bred birds has reestablished a breeding population in south Texas.
