Identification:

Small owl with small ear tufts. Stocky neck. Gray morph is mottled gray, black, and white. Red morph is rufous, black, and white. Light eyes.

Cool Facts:

Eastern Screech-Owls come in both gray and red morphs, with only about a third of birds being red, more commonly farther east. Gray plumage birds are best differentiated from their western counterparts by call – a descending whinny.
