Identification:
Large black seabird with long pointed wings and tail. Displaying male shows large red throat patch. Female has large white patch on breast.
Distribution:
Breed along both coasts of the Americas, from California to Ecuador in the Pacific, and from Florida to Brazil in the Atlantic. During the non breeding season, ranges farther north and south on both coasts.
Cool Facts:
The Magnificent Frigatebird, sometimes called Man-of-War bird, is a large and fierce seabird probably best known for the male’s comically large, red throat pouch, which is inflated like a balloon and proudly displayed to attract females.
