Tan/gray overall with black barring and white spotting. Yellow comb, and purple throat skin shown by displaying male.

Resident across northern North America from upper US to Alaska.

Cool Facts:

The Sharp-tailed Grouse is so named because it has a relatively short tail, with two longer, square-tipped feathers at the center.

The Sharp-tailed Grouse is the provincial bird of Saskatchewan.
