Identification:
Buffy/orange body with distinctive white stripes along side. Dark bill and legs. Like other whistling ducks, often stands fairly upright, with long legs.
Distribution:
Reaches only the extreme southern United States in Florida and the Gulf Coast. Worldwide range includes coastal Mexico, northern and southeastern South America, Africa, and India.
Cool Facts:
While the United States is at the extreme northern range limit for Fulvous Whistling-ducks, this species of waterfowl is one of the most widespread in the world.
Whistling-ducks have very odd mating habits compared to other ducks. Whistling-ducks typically do not have elaborate courtship displays, male ducks help care for ducklings, and mated pairs may stay together for years.
