The Red-faced Warbler is one of few warbler species to sport such a stunning shade, but when attracting a mate, the male focuses on showing off his bright white rump patch. Females are nearly as brightly colored as males, another unusual trait for a warbler.
A bird of high montane pine-oak forest, the Red-faced Warbler reaches the US only in a small part of Arizona and New Mexico, and only above elevations of 6400 feet.
