Rounded head with black around eyes. Males lighter than females. Short feathered “ear” tufts, often not clearly visible.

Cool Facts:

Short-eared Owls are so named for their short “ear” feather tufts, which are often difficult to see. Like all owls – even the “horned” variety with more prominent feather tufts – the actual ears are located on the side of the head.
