Cool Facts:
The Black-Crowned Night-Heron earns the scientific name “Nycticorax,” meaning “night raven,” from its raven-like “wok” call and predominantly nocturnal habits. These birds are still often seen during the day, but may appear much less sluggish when the sun starts going down.
