Identification:
Dark gray with dark rump and wedge tail. Light carpal bar on wings. Smallest Pacific storm-petrel.
Distribution:
Nests and from northern California to Baja California. In winter, range extends south to Ecuador.
Cool Facts:
The tiny Least Storm-Petrel is less than six inches long, making it the smallest storm-petrel, but these birds still live over the open ocean; during heavy storms they’ve been observed gliding through the troughs of waves for shelter.
