Identification:
Dark above and light below, with dark undertail coverts. Head dark with indistinct border.
Distribution:
Nests off the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Common in summer and winter along the Pacific Coast of North America.
Cool Facts:
The Black-vented Shearwater is the smallest regularly-occurring shearwater in Pacific North America, and one of the more commonly seen in the southern US.
The species name opisthomeles derives from Greek “dark rear.”
