Identification:
Grayish red overall with white and black barred sides, white face and neck, black eye line extending into necklace, and red bill and legs.
Distribution:
Native to Eurasia and introduced to North America as a game bird. Resident of the Great Basin, with scattered populations elsewhere.
Cool Facts:
Native to arid climates, Chukar are excellent at finding water sources; they have even been discovered using water in mine tunnels.
In Indian mythology, Chukar have been used as symbols of love, and were said to be enamored with the moon.
